    Ethnicity Debate in Nepal

See the devil on the doorstep now (my oh my)
Telling everybody oh just how to live their lives
    Sliding down the information highway
Buying in just like a bunch of fools
Time is ticking and we can’t go back (my oh my)

Very thoughtful posting! Your ‘not edited’ thoughts are very honest and powerful.

This demand for the so called “federalism” and that too ethnicity based will create more and more anarchy in the coming days. It seems like the ‘beginning of the end’ of a nation called Nepal.

Any sane person can see that federalism is wrong for Nepal where no ethnic group is concentrated in a certain area. This thing called ‘Bahun-Chhetri domination’ has been hyped too much. Maoists used the slogan of ‘ethnic federalism’ to recruit young people for its red army. It paid Maoists well in the CA elections too. Some dollar cultivating NGOs have their own vested interest and India is more than happy to play in this anarchy created in Nepal. Other parties and so called civil society don’t want to speak against such a ‘populist’ idea. The result all this foolishness we are seeing around.

And there are Madheshi parties who want all of the Terai and BHITRi MADHESH as their ‘own’ state. It is strange that they want places like Chitwan, where they didn’t even get 500 votes, too in their ‘map’ . I saw someone saying “EK MADHESH – EK PRADESH” is “EK MADHESH – UTTAR PRADESH”. I couldn’t agree more!

We totally suck as a country. I’ve read and heard about the growing ethnic divide in Nepal. I guess the only solution is for people like you to voice the irrationality of these hate mongers.

like the symbolisms in the first pic – old man with flag (demanding for something he might not see in his lifetime!), disinterested youths in the background, and a heap of rubbish (left uncollected because of the bandh?!?)…oh, and half open shutter of the pharmacy too! state of the “republic”!

the man seems oblivious to all. the pharmacy is named after a legend! :P

      Thanks Guys.

@ M I just got lucky with the symbolism in the first pic. It is indeed a very common sight during Bandas, so common that I was not a bit attracted to the young ppl walking or the medical store either..it was the gait of the man in the picture which caught my eye, like James said oblivious to everything, looks so confident as if he will make ‘Newa Rajya’ happen by his ‘long strides’ alone! Thanks to your eyes which saw so much in it :) ..the garbage lay there not because of the Banda but due to another ‘protest’ by Okharpauwa people….the streets were the same today i.e littered with garbage even though its a Nepal Khulla day…

@ James the legend isn’t forgotten :P and won’t be for innumerable reasons………..

@ Anonymous : Thank you for the appreciation.
